GOAL AND TASK
GOAL
- The goal of the division is to enlarge the scale of biodiversity information exchange through collecting, arrangement and dissemination of biodiversity information related with zoology and relevant field, improve the cooperation in this field between different organizations and individuals in or out of China, spread the biodiversity knowledge in public, make decision support for national and local government on scientific basis, promote the biodiversity conservation and sustainable use in China.
TASK
- Task in 1997-1999
- 1. Home Page: The home page of the division be put on the Internet and be updated periodically. It contains news, organization management information, goal and task, information services and project information.
- 2. Database: The databases, such as species inventory database of China and endangered and protected species database of China, which are built up in the Eight-five-Year Plan project, will be upgraded to meet the requirement of data sharing on the net. Some new data will be supplement to the databases, especially graphs and pictures
- 3. Networking: These animal databases will be linked with the Internet.
- 4.Standardization: A series of code system for biodiversity data management will be set up and distribute them to relevant organization.
- Task in 2000-2001
- 1. Database Maintenance: All databases built will be updated periodically and supplemented with new data.
- 2. Animal Specimen Database: The animal specimen database, which is set up by the Ninth-Five-Year Plane key project of CAS, will be reconstructed to meet the requirement of data sharing and be put on the net.
- 3. CD-ROM of Endangered Animal: CD-ROM(s) will be published that contains the information of endangered animals in China, including the character, distribution, habitat, ecological features, reproduction and current status of animals in China.
- 4. Network Site of Animal Knowledge: A network site on the Internet will be set up for public education on wildlife science, to spread the knowledge about animals on the net to promote the consciousness of biodiversity conservation on public.
- 5. GIS of Endangered Animal: A geographical information system for endangered animals will be constructed to analyze the relations between animals and their environment in the distribution area to provide the scientific data for biodiversity conservation.
- Task After 2000
- 1. Database Maintenance: All databases built will be updated periodically and supplemented with new data, such as species inventory database, endangered animal database and animal specimen database.
- 2. Reference Database: The reference (papers, books, reports, etc.) information, related biodiversity research focused on Zoology in China will be collected and the reference database will be built up for scientists and the public.
- 3. Distribution Map of Animal: Lots of distribution maps of endangered animals will be made in electronic form, some of them will be put on the Internet.
- 4. Multimedia Publication: A series multimedia publication will be published for education on wildlife conservation.
